When something feels off about your brand, it’s tempting to assume you need a rebrand.
Often, you do. But sometimes, the real issue is something else entirely: unclear messaging, low awareness, a disconnected audience strategy, or an inconsistent experience.
And when you start solving the wrong problem, you waste time, money, and momentum.
That was one of the key ideas shared at this year’s All About Brand conference, where Iris Creative’s Beth Brodovsky talked about our framework for diagnosing where brand work actually needs to begin:
“You can enter the brand process at many points — but if you start in the wrong place for your goals, you’ll waste time and money.”
Our framework is called AMIE:
- Audience: Who are you trying to reach, and are you focused on the right people?
- Message: Are you communicating something clear, relevant, and differentiated?
- Image: Does your visual identity reflect who you are today?
- Experience: Do people consistently experience your brand the way you intend?
These four areas are connected. A challenge in one often affects the others — which is why jumping straight to a new logo can miss the real issue.
Sometimes the smartest move is refining your message. Sometimes it’s improving how your audience experiences the brand. Sometimes it’s clarifying strategy before touching design at all.
The real value is not in jumping to solutions. It’s in diagnosing the right problem first.
Not everything needs a rebrand. But everything needs a reason.
If you’re unsure what kind of brand work your organization actually needs, let’s talk it through.
